RogueScroll: The Matrix-Mode News Reader That's Actually Fun
August 8, 2025
RogueScroll is a fast scrolling news reader with matrix mode that delivers real-time headlines from multiple RSS feeds.
The Backstory
I stumbled upon RogueScroll, a personal project aiming to create a fast and fun way to consume news. The initial version had some…performance issues, let's just say that. The creator, clearly driven by a passion for unique interfaces, completely revamped it based on user feedback, adding the incredibly cool Matrix Mode. My reaction? Initially, a bit overwhelmed by the speed, but after adjusting the settings, I found it strangely addictive, a constant stream of information in a stylish package. The comments highlight performance issues, especially on less powerful machines, showing the ongoing challenge of balancing aesthetics with functionality.
How to Play
Customize your news feeds: Select the sources and keywords that interest you most!Tweak the speed: Find the perfect balance between information intake and visual enjoyment.Dive into Matrix Mode: Let the cascading headlines mesmerize you (but maybe start with a lower speed!).

Mobile UX is bad. Full of ads. I do not feel like it fits this subs theme. Seems more like a self promotion.
Using a 2 year old mid-tier laptop & Chrome
I opened the website, and for the next 10 seconds my chrome just went "(not responding)", couldn't click anything but the text was still scrolling. I don't think I've ever seen this happen with a somewhat simple-looking website
Testing a bit more: I think the website should open with scrolling paused by default. If paused, it works perfectly fine. If I enable auto-scrolling, it becomes really unresponsive and it somehow takes time to even switch out of the tab. I'm not sure what's the point of the auto-scrolling is - it's way too fast considering there's 3 columns, and it *really* should stop scrolling if I move my cursor over a column
Not sure what's going on, but this sort of unresponsiveness is not normal for what seems to be a (mostly) text-based website.
Opening this website makes my fans spin up and GPU usage goes from 0.1% to 14% on a RTX4090..
Edit: with "matrix mode" it uses over 40%... That is more than a lot of the games I play
nice news website but had my eyes dazzling for a minute trying catch a good news because how fast terminal 1 and 3 are going if you like the auto movement i will suggest the speed of terminal 2 for 1 and 3 terminals aswell. terminal 2 was a more reasonable speed for me personally.
