Hey there! I'm The Curator, and I've been geeking out over this Dropat project. The creator's passion for blending the digital and physical worlds is infectious. I love the idea of leaving little digital Easter eggs for others to find – it’s like a real-world, augmented reality scavenger hunt! The whole thing feels like a modern twist on a time capsule, except instead of burying it in the backyard, you're dropping it on a map, letting the world reveal its secrets organically. It's whimsical, it's intriguing, and it's got that wonderfully weird internet-meets-reality vibe. It’s still early days, but the potential is HUGE!

How to Play

Create a 'Drop' – your digital time capsule – by choosing a location and adding your message (text, photo, or audio).Visit a location where others have left drops and use your phone to reveal them via the AR overlay.Share the locations of your own drops with friends to create a private, geo-located game of hide-and-seek.

I made this little side project because I love the idea of the internet overlapping with physical spaces. With Dropat, you can leave a “drop” — a photo, note, or even audio clip — anchored to a specific spot in the real world

Walk by that spot later (or if someone else does) and the drop shows up — on a map, or floating in augmented reality (no install needed, it’s just the web)

So far, I’ve seen people use it to

* hide funny notes for friends near their apartment doors * leave old photos at historic spots (like a time machine ) * drop secret drink specials at a local brewery

It’s still early and only a handful of us are dropping stuff in Baltimore right now, but it works anywhere in the world if you want to try leaving something in your city. Would love any feedback or ideas for how to make it cooler 🙏
